The Universal Anglican Church

Universally Affirming Congregations Where Everyone is Welcome!

Worship Resources

Worship in the Universal Anglican Church is liturgical.  Local parishes and ministries determine the exact form of their worship, using any Book of Common Prayer or other liturgical worship form as the basis for their worship.  Parishes and ministries are also free to create their own forms of liturgical worship.

Because worship in the UAC is liturgical, many of our churches and ministries use a lectionary to determine the readings for a given service.  However, the exact readings used for worship are determined by the congregation.

Worship in the Universal Anglican Church

The Anglican Tradition has a rich heritage of worship, and the UAC celebrates that history. For those unfamiliar with Anglicanism, it may be helpful to explain some terms.

"Low Church" is a church that is less formal; a church that does not chant or sing its service; a church that alternates Morning Prayer with Eucharist; such churches sometimes appear to be more "protestant".

"High Church" is a designation of a church emphasizing theological or liturgical formality; a church with several vested assistants and many fine utensils used in the service; a church that sings or chants its service rather than reading or speaking it; a church that celebrates the Eucharist every Sunday. Such churches sometimes appear to be more "catholic".

"Broad Church," as one might expect, refers to the middle ground between High and Low Church.

Within the Universal Anglican Church all three worship styles are found, and within every worshipping community all are welcome. Contact your local priest to learn more about the worship style in your local parish!
